About the Trainer

K-10 Dog Training is owned and run by Nancy LaFontaine. To become a Certified Dog Trainer was born on the dream to own our own business. It was a dream of working with dogs and being in charge of my retirement life with a fulfilling career while giving back to the community.

Reality came to fruition once Nancy enrolled into the ABC Animal Behavior College Dog Training course. Nancy graduated in 2009 and the business has grown leaps and bounds since that year. Training and helping all dogs of many sizes, breeds and temperaments and their owners. Helping to understand ‘how to’s’ to get the best canine behavior.

Celebrating 14 years of being 1 BETTER!

Nancy LaFontaine is an ABC CERTIFIED Dog Trainer, ABC MENTOR and a CANINE GOOD CITIZEN (CGC) EVALUATOR through the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Like the programs that the AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB offers for us AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluators, where I teach you and your pup to become not only a Good Canine in public but we can stretch our goals to train for Therapy Pet. It starts with a Canine Good Citizen. K-10 Dog Training has become the company’s own K-10 Therapy Pet Evaluator.

Please note: Not all dogs are a good candidates to become or test for either the AKC CGC test or as a Therapy Pet however, it is a strong goal and belief of Nancy’s that you, we, STRIVE TOWARDS HAVING THE BEST A DOG CAN BE OUT IN PUBLIC as well as within the home environment.

Nancy is studying and working towards becoming a Behaviorist by trait. She has over the years worked with very serious to mild behavioral situations with many dogs and breeds. Also working with the well mannered dog to train to become the best canine for his/her forever years. This is rewarding and a treat to say the least.

As an ABC (Animal Behavior College) Certified Dog Trainer, Nancy LaFontaine services the Sussex, Kent Counties, DE (and at times into various areas of Maryland).

K-10 Dog Training has been in business and training successfully dogs and their owners since 2009! Using Positive Reinforcement Methods and taking the training to a Higher Level. Using dog food as the treat based training tool, which is a great motivational tool for the dogs. Obedience being the important step for training and to rework bad behaviors while changing the bad habits into good, positive behaviors.

The K-10 Dog Training Programs offers a variety of courses starting with the Foundation to All Training, the Basic Obedience and Advanced Obedience classes and the AKC (American Kennel Club) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) courses and testing. K-10 Dog Training also works to help Socialize your dog/puppy, specifically called as 'DOGs Working with DOGs' curriculum. K-10 Dog Training also has formed a ‘Let’s Walk’ concentrating on good leash walking skills. This is introduced into the Obedience series and perfected in the Advance series as well.

Private lessons are available as well and highly recommended (required) with behavioral problems to serious aggression issues. And many times people want that one-on-one attention.

Nancy volunteered at the Sussex County SPCA in Georgetown, DE.

As the sole Trainer, Nancy LaFontaine worked with the Georgetown Sussex Correctional Institute where she implemented her successful Dog Training Program with dogs and the inmates/handlers. This program helped the dogs to become more adoptable. Giving these dogs another chance of finding their forever home with their future new families. It had been an honor to work with all in this program!

Nancy was also involved with the Lower Delaware Therapy Dogs years before becoming a Certified Dog Trainer. A fun and rewarding program.
